Positive Leadership Development Institute (PLDI)
The Positive Leadership Development Institute (PLDI) builds resilience and leadership capacity among people living with HIV. Grounded in the principles of Greater Involvement and Meaningful Engagement of people living with HIV, PLDI is run for and by Positive People, celebrating lived experience as the foundation of leadership within the HIV response.
Our Mission
PLDI’s mission is to:
- Honour the leadership of the past
- Value and strengthen the leadership of today
- Encourage and support the leadership of tomorrow
Through these guiding principles, PLDI empowers a diverse network of people living with HIV to engage with and represent their communities, while supporting the development of future HIV-positive leaders.
The Program
PLDI is a 3-day residential workshop that invites participants to explore one central question: “Who am I as a leader?”
To date, graduates of the program collectively represent more than 4,000 years of lived HIV experience. Together, they form a powerful network of leaders and advocates committed to supporting and empowering one another and improving the quality of life of all people living with HIV.
Workshop Objectives
Participants will:
- Understand the five principles and ten commitments of leadership
- Discover their own leadership potential
- Contribute to a strong network of PLHIV leaders
- Recognise the unique strengths each individual brings to the community
- Practice leadership skills in a safe, supportive environment
- Inspire others to take on leadership roles
- Develop pathways to mentorship and facilitation within the community
- Deepen their awareness and connection to the broader PLHIV network
