NT AIDS & Hepatitis Council (NTAHC)
The Care & Support program offers a range of services to support and empower all people affected by, or at risk of, blood borne viruses, to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, along with strategies for dealing with stigma and discrimination. This program is available at both Darwin and Alice Springs, however, can also be accessed via phone for people living in other parts of the NT.
Any people with a blood-borne virus, along with their families, partners or friends, are eligible to access the Care & Support program. This would include older PLHIV. The program offers a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for clients to chat with staff about their health and wellbeing concerns, aiming for a positive outcome for all who access the services.
Services include:
- Referrals to HIV and Hepatitis testing, including pre- and post-test support on living well with HIV and/or Hepatitis
- One-on- one education and information
- Referrals to GPs, mental health services, and other allied health practitioners
- Referrals to drug and alcohol rehabilitation support
- A support person for health and mental health appointments; NDIS applications; housing and financial services (including Emergency Relief Funding); transport; self-advocacy; and other services as required.
- Social inclusion groups – a place for people to meet, share and support each other on their health and wellbeing journey.
- The groups provide a non-judgmental, safe and supportive environment; friendly and informal activities based on what participants want and need; and access to information, advocacy and support services.
