Women make up more than 2,000 of the almost 30,000 people living with HIV in Australia. While HIV affects everyone differently, women often face additional challenges. Gender impacts the progression of HIV infection, comorbidities, how HIV is best treated, and a range of possible side effects.

Positive women also experience a number of specific issues such as interactions with contraceptive and HIV medications, pregnancy, breastfeeding, menopause and cervical cancer. Developed by AFAO and NAPWHA, Living Well: Women with HIV is a detailed resource for, and produced in consultation with, HIV-positive women.

Divided into eight sections — Living with HIV, Telling People, Sex & HIV, Treatment, Your Body, Having Children, Keeping Well, and Getting Support — Living Well can be accessed here.
