People living with HIV in Australia now have a further treatment option in the form of a new single-tablet regimen, Triumeq. Available through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, Triumeq is a highly effective, much-tolerated, easy-to-take antiretroviral containing three medications: 600mg abacavir, 300mg lamivudine and 50mg of dolutegravir.
Aaron Cogle, of the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA), has welcomed the drug’s PBS listing. “It is very important that HIV medications are easy to take, potent and have minimal side effects so that people with HIV are able to incorporate HIV into their day-to-day living with minimal impact,” he said. “Triumeq provides another choice for doctors and people with HIV to consider in their HIV planning.”
