For the first time in five years, the number of gay men in Queensland not using condoms outnumbers those who do.

The Gay Community Periodic Survey Queensland 2013 — undertaken by the Kirby Institute with a sample size of 1,103 gay men from Brisbane, Cairns, Rockhampton and the Gold Coast — indicates a 7.6% increase in the number of respondents reporting to sometimes not using condoms during casual sex.

At the same time, the study found a 6.9% decrease in the number of gay men who always use condoms.
